We are pleased to introduce a boat onto our brokerage that could be described as Drascombe royalty. Hippo is a Gig that has sailed around the whole of the UK and Ireland in her time, travelled to Holland to sail the seas there, and has been a regular feature at rallies around the country
.
'Hippo' is a 1986 gig hull, and was converted by her owner into a cruising boat in 1997. A great deal of thought went into her layout. For example the cabin bulkheads where angled to be comfortable back rests and the side decks made wide enough to accommodate the skipper boots....

She has the yawl rig associated with Drascombes, with a traditional loose footed mainsail set as a lug sail.
​
She is 25’ in length (7.62m) with a beam of 7’ (2.13m) and a plate up draft of 1’6” (0.46m) and a plate down draft of 5'1" (1.56m).

She benefits from a tabernacle mounted mast which aids rigging and towing.
​
Her berths are long enough for a person of well over 6ft to lie comfortably.
​
It is fair to say that whilst Hippo is sound and serviceable she is looking for an owner who has adventure in mind and is willing to give her an overall upgrade.
The boat is not available to view at DBL -being located on the south coast between Southampton and Lymington where the owner is more than happy to show you around.
